DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

We will try to understand what are the civil rights problems in our society. We still believe that our domination over four centuries in Africa, South America and everywhere else was an important mission that bridged the humanity, although we don't know why they still come to our country P*rtugal. 'Bustagate' is a hybrid movie, mixing textuality and three visual narratives to tell and asphyxiate the audience, pretending to put them in the same place as our deflated heroine (society). 'Bustagate' emerges one year after the incident in the neighborhood of Jamaica (south bank of Lisbon). Through the artist commentaries as a politician agent on behalf of the Portuguese public prosecutor, Welket reports a scandalous and misfit panorama of violence and social inequality in Portugal. Here is a posthumous interventional film for this imaginary character called Pretugal (as Luís Giovani Rodrigues), dedicated to the Portuguese people ("natives" and the descendants of the African continent who born here). This creation follows the main subject of the previous manifesto-film 'I Am Not Pilatus' (Official Selection DocLisboa - International Competition, 2019).

A short film by Welket Bungué, based on true facts from the case of "Police brutality against Cláudia Simões" (Amadora, Portugal 19th January 2020). Performed by Isabél Zuaa & Cleo Tavares. A KUSSA PRODUCTIONS' creation, filmed in Cape Verde, with image and sound from online viral videos by several authors. In Memoriam of Luís Giovani Rodrigues, the Cape Verdean student who died after been assaulted by at least ten men in Bragança (North of Portugal).
