Art on camera and at the heart of the program
Only two editions ago, the Outros Esquemas Exhibition was created within the Cine Esquema Novo — Brazilian Audiovisual Art program focusing on compelling works that touch on relevant themes in the social, cultural, and political contexts, with different proposals from those that constitute the Brazil Competitive Exhibition. These works provoke and move us. We want to share and reflect on them, and it is for them that we have conceived the Outros Esquemas Exhibition, which is part of the freedom that Cine Esquema Novo strives for: to always place the audiovisual work above any scheduling need or format. It also means expanding the curatorial vision to new possibilities. Thus, in this edition we also celebrate something new: a thematic focus for Outros Esquemas.
Once again, the curatorial team was presented with a wide range of works to appreciate, analyze, discuss, and finally select. As expected, many of them could be part of the Outros Esquemas Exhibition. This time, however, the curatorial team took an unplanned direction. Something interesting emerged during the curatorial process. There was a common theme among many of them: artistic creation as the center of the narrative. With this focus, we present the 8 works that comprise this program.
These works address music, performing arts, cinema, and visual arts, and seek to highlight some aspects of these artists’ production, in addition to uncover trajectories that deserve attention. For a festival interested in understanding and debating creative processes while following the journeys of the artists exhibiting in its program, it seemed very natural to propose this theme. Within the contemporary debates about authorship and the creative use of new technologies, Outros Esquemas presents works that demonstrate different methods and processes artists use in various fields of expression. The works also deal with aspects beyond artistic creation, such as their political power and ability to mobilize society in the face of local or global relevant issues.
In the 15th edition of Cine Esquema Novo, Outros Esquemas is in line with the curatorship, this year’s program, and the festival’s precepts, placing the artists at the center of the stage, from where the fruits of their encounters with the audience reverberate in different directions. In conclusion, it is possible to understand from these works that art, like this festival, is born from encounters.

Sinopse: Batimento é um documentário curta-metragem que explora os bastidores da produção da instalação de mesmo nome concebida pelo artista Túlio Pinto, durante a 13ª edição da Bienal do Mercosul.
Boom Shankar – O filme perdido do Guará, de Sérgio Gag, 2024, 74min, São Paulo - A18
Sinopse: 1972. Uma Kombi viaja da Holanda à Índia. Essa jornada é a matéria-prima de Boom Shankar, único filme dirigido por Guará Rodrigues, personagem mítico do Cinema Brasileiro de Invenção. Aquele filme nunca foi concluído, mas fragmentos recentemente encontrados são combinados com depoimentos de integrantes da viagem que recuperam o espírito libertário e pioneiro da época.
